We have established these principles for a safer space to ensure that everyone participating in AFSA’s activities feels safe and respected.
The goal of these principles is to: 1. Make our on-site and off-site activities physically and mentally safe spaces for every participant. 2. Guarantee an equal, respectful, and open atmosphere. 3. Reinforce our values in our activities. Our values are inclusiveness, the appreciation and support of diversity, openness, fairness, and accountability.
Every AFSA event, meeting, and activity is subject to these safer space principles. Therefore, every member of AFSA and the others participating in our activities are liable to familiarize themselves with these principles and adhere to them.
1. Respect others
● Respect everyone’s personal physical and mental space and self-determination. ● Respect everyone’s privacy. ● Remember that all of us determine our own physical and mental boundaries.
2. bullying, harassment, and discrimination are prohibited
● Racist, as well as homophobic and transphobic speech and behaviour are forbidden. ● No one is to be ill-treated or belittled due to their personal attributes such as gender, age, appearance, health, or background.
3. Equal encounters
● Allow space for conversation. ● Listen and be open to everyone’s diversity and different opinions.
4. Don’t assume
● Don’t make assumptions based on someone’s gender, background, or family circumstances (for example). ● Strive to dismantle stereotypes. ● Note that the way of thinking you have established can sometimes hurt others.
5. We are here for each other at AFSA
● Interference is everyone’s task. ● Identify and intervene in discrimination, harassment, and inappropriate behaviour. ● If possible, bring up grievances already when they occur.
-Contact the SAFE PERSON if-
● you need or notice someone else needing help. ● something worries you ● you experience ill-treatment or abuse.
